Webster County Schools will once again be hosting an Energy Express Site this summer. Applications are currently open for mentor positions and a volunteer coordinator. Energy Express needs high school graduates and college students interested in serving through AmeriCorps and volunteers willing to read to children or perform other tasks. In your role as an AmeriCorps participant within the Energy Express program, you'll dedicate your summer to supporting the youth of Webster County and fostering community engagement. You'll engage Energy Express participants in various educational and creative pursuits, including reading, writing, art, drama, and enjoyable, non-competitive recreational activities.
There are two different opportunities: mentors who serve directly with children and community coordinators who serve directly with volunteers. Both positions receive a $3726.00 living allowance and a $1459.26 education award. Mentors create an enriching environment focused on reading, writing, and art that makes learning fun for a small group of school-age children. Mentors also eat breakfast and lunch with the children--a valuable time to develop strong bonds with the children. Community coordinators connect the parents and community to the site by recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers to read with children.
